US University Ranking
Top 100 Ranked Universities
Top Ranked Universities by Program
"Ranking should be considered as a reference tool to help the student to shortlist the universities. Students should not choose the university solely based on rank."
US university ranks plays a significant role in graduate enrollment. Ranking methodologies used by various organizations, every year, vary a lot and this raises a big question about the ranks of the universities. Students are advised to choose the universities based the individual student's ranking criteria, which will bring the best result for them. In other words, students should choose the universities based on their own priorities and not based on the ranks alone. For example, if the student is looking for High Profile University in electrical engineering, he/she should choose the list of universities by the rank for electrical engineering and not based general rank of the university. One university may have top 10 ranks for most of the programs but may be in top 25 for electrical engineering. So the student's priority supersedes the university rank. Students should do the analysis to find out ranking factors for their preference and then short list the university.
US university ranking was defined by various factors by various organizations, like number of programs, acceptance percentage, enrollment etc. There is no popular official University ranking list available to the student by government or any educational related organization. US news published university ranking report and it's the one widely used by many students around the world.
"US University rank" the magic keyword searched by millions of student's everyday to find out the best university for them.
What's the significance of this ranking? How important it is for international students?
As we mentioned earlier in this article, selecting the university should be purely based on student's individual priority and preference, if the student wants to study in very good university, then ranking list can used as guideline and top 50 universities should be a good choice. Say for example, if the student is more interested in getting assistantship, Will the top 50 rank can secure his/her assistantship? Definitely not; getting admitted into top 50 universities alone will not bring to the students whatever they want, there are many other criteria involved in that process. Assistantship is based in the student's academic performance and available funding in the department; the student may be able to secure the assistantship in the university which rank may be 95. So, the rank matters only if the student is looking for "General" criteria for the universities and may not be useful or helpful to meet all for the student's individual objective.
It is important to know the National universities are generally rated as the best colleges in the country (USA) for over all academic excellence, faculty and infrastructure, offering any/all/majority of the subjects that are being taught. These are colleges that are ranked in the Top 50 and beyond. There are many colleges that do not make it to the top national colleges but which are very well reputed and provide good quality education.
As for as international students are concerned, instead of looking for University ranks students should look for the university which meet all of their objectives. If the university fulfill and meet more objectives of the student then it can be considered as high ranked university or can be called high value university for the individual student. So students should work hard and analyze more options to get into that university.
